CANON POINT: Immediately following X-Men: First Contact

PERSONALITY:

There are always men who seek to crush, exploit, persecute, or eliminate all things that are different from themselves. Erik Lensherr learned this at a young age when his he and his family were imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp. It was then that his mutant powers first manifested, nearly tearing the camp's massive iron gates apart, to the horror of most present, but to the fascination of one Nazi scientist who murdered Erik's mother before his eyes. For the next year until the fall of the Third Reich, Erik was experimented on and tortured in an attempt to understand his powers.

Over the next 17 years, Erik systematically hunted down and executed every Nazi responsible for his and his family's fate in that camp, both his vendetta and his abilities fueled by his rage. After failing to kill the head scientist, a man now calling himself Sebastian Shaw, Erik was befriended by fellow mutant Charles Xavier, who shared his dream of peaceful coexistence between human- and mutantkind. Allying himself with Xavier and allowing himself for the first time to believe in the possibility of peace, Erik joined Xavier's small team of mutants in order to prevent Shaw from instigating another World War.

From the beginning, Erik's place among the group was uncertain. Although he and Xavier shared a common goal-- a world where mutants need no longer hide in the shadows, living in fear of being persecuted and exterminated-- their methods differed greatly. Erik saw humanity as the enemy, as another group of cruel and frightened bullies willing to stamp out anyone they deemed different and therefore inferior. To him, the solution was combat, not coexistence; to him, all oppressors of his people, whether Jew or mutant, deserved the same fate he delivered to his Nazi captors.

Although both he and Xavier dedicated themselves to shepherding the younger generation of mutants and training them in their powers-- something Erik engaged in with more than expected skill and commitment-- This attitude found its way into the minds of the very mutants that the friends had brought together to train. The teasing he gave Henry McCoy turned into admiration after the young scientist's transformation into a more bestial form, releasing, as Erik viewed it, the true beast within. Even more significantly, he began an affair with Xavier's own adopted sister Raven, encouraging the girl not only to accept her true form, but to revel in her superiority as a mutant, directly opposing what Xavier had taught her-- to blend in and hide "the real Raven" because of human society's inability to accept her-- further convincing Erik of his friend's misguided goals. Later, when Erik parted ways with Xavier, Raven went with him.

In the end, Erik's rage won out and in cold blood, he murdered Shaw in revenge for himself and his family. And when the combined navies of the United States and the Soviet Union turned their weapons on the gathered mutants, Erik found his own beliefs justified-- that peaceful coexistence was a fool's dream and that mutants needed to use any means necessary to protect their species and ensure that homo superior would one day take its rightful place as dominant species on Earth. Taking the name 'Magneto' and gathering a Brotherhood of Mutants around him, he declared war.

Above all, Erik Lensherr is a survivor. He feels he has come too far and suffered too much to be swayed or stopped from his own destiny or the destiny of his people. He is a charismatic leader with a forceful and domineering air, along with an excellent strategist willing and ready to use subterfuge and fear to reach his goals.

POWERS: Erik has the ability to manipulate metal telekinetically. He has shown control over metallic objects as small as dental fillings, as large as a nuclear submarine and as energetic as dozens of missiles at once. He is in excellent physical condition, and is experienced in the use of small firearms.
PREVIOUS GAME MEMORIES: N/A
SUITABILITY: Erik will be willing to do what he must to survive his current situation. He is likely, however, to resent being made an experimental subject once more.
FIRST PERSON EXAMPLE:

What do you think is your best feature or characteristic? My unwillingness to betray my ideals. Nothing can move me from what I want.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you bring and why? No, you can not bring a boat. A copy of Machiavelli's The Prince, a chess set, and a large quantity of metal.

Do you prefer fresh air or air conditioning? Why? Fresh air. Anything else reeks of captivity.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do? Purchase an island and establish it as a sovreign nation and refuge for my people.

If you were any animal, what would you be? Anything fiercely protective of its own kind.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Convince my more naive brethren of the futility in attempting to co-exist with humans.

Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad but it turned out for the best? Not so very long ago, the combined might of the U.S. and Soviet navies were combined in an attempt to eradicate myself and a gathering of my fellow mutants because those respective governments deemed homo superior to be too dangerous. It became a clear indication to me that it was pointless to pursue a course of peace with humanity. It also proved to be an effective demonstration of just how dangerous mutantkind could be.

What was the last experience that made you a stronger person? I recently had the opportunity to execute the man who murdered my family, tortured and experimented on me, and nearly instigated World War III. Now with the spectre of him gone from my mind, I am at liberty to focus my energies fully on the good of my people.
